Civic Literacy Internships require 150 hours of service with a local agency (governmental or non-governmental) to receive 3 hours of P/NC Political Science credit. Recent internship placements include the City of Fort Worth Office of Community Relations, Judge Sharon Wilson, Sister Cities International, and Baylor All Saints. Karen Anisman, Assistant Director of Civic Literacy, will work with students to find the appropriate placement and to complete their application materials. If you are interested in pursuing a Civic Literacy Internship, please follow these procedures:
Civic Literacy Internship Procedures
1.Contact Karen Anisman, Assistant Director, TCU Center for Civic Literacy and set up an appointment to discuss your internship interests. If you have a current resume, bring it with you.

2. Once you have discussed internship possibilities with the assistant director and have determined that you want to have a Civic Literacy internship, she will work to find you a position. Once a potential mentor is identified, the assistant director will contact you by email with the mentor’s information for your cover letter.
3. You will then need to update your resume and write a cover letter to send to the assistant director to create a file for you. Career Services is available to help you with these tasks.
4. When your resume and cover letter are complete, you will email them to the assistant director so that she can create a file for you. She will forward them to the potential mentor who can then contact you directly to set up an interview. Once your information has been sent, you will need to follow up with the potential mentor to be sure it was received.
5. When you have secured a position, contact Debbie Baldwin in the political science office for a permit to register for a Civic Literacy internship. You may contact her by email at d.baldwin@tcu.edu.
6. Three semester hour’s credit, ungraded (P/NC) will be awarded for 150 service hours, estimated at the rate of 10 hours per week for 15 weeks. The estimated hours per week will vary in summer internships, but the total of 150 service hours will still apply.
7. Additionally, to receive credit, you will:
- turn in weekly electronic updates, including a weekly time log, concerning your internship responsibilities to the assistant director using eCollege.
- meet twice/semester with Eric Cox and/or Karen Anisman.
- complete a 4-5 page paper detailing your work experience and the complete a work portfolio.
